Through the year

What's ripe when

A typical year at the orchard. Weather moves it around, so the crop report above is the word for this week.

Peaches from mid-June to Labor Day, in crates of several grades for canning and freezing. Blackberries from about the middle of July. Sweet corn, tomatoes and other vegetables in July and August.

From the cider mill

100% pure apple cider

No additives and no preservatives. Fresh cider is usually at the fruit stand from late September through November. It's a great fall treat, so call ahead to check today's batch.

Try it on the grill, too: put Sibley cider in a spray bottle and spray whatever you're grilling every three or four minutes. You're going to be surprised at the flavor.

Groups and gatherings

Weddings, events and school tours

Every one of these is arranged by phone. Call (816) 650-5535 for this season's dates and pricing.

Weddings

A fun and unique place for a reception. Our open-air barn can be dressed up or down, with indoor or outdoor space for your party. We're happy to cater, or you can bring your own. Hayrides and bonfires can be arranged.

Good to know before you book
  • The barn is open air, so weather can be a factor.
  • Alcohol is allowed. Kegs and underage drinking are not, and anyone not following these guidelines will be asked to leave.
  • Decorative items in the fruit stand can be used at your event. We take an inventory, and lost or broken items are the wedding party's responsibility.
  • A walk-in cooler can be rented for food storage.
  • No vehicles left overnight, and no driving or partying in the orchard.

Corporate events

The open-air barn has ample meeting space. We'll be glad to work with you or your event planner, and we can work a hayride and bonfire into your meeting.

School tours

A fun, hands-on field trip. In the fall, your group takes a short ride to the small pumpkin patch and everyone picks a pumpkin. Then each student can help grind apples and press cider on our antique cider press, and the demonstration ends with a sample of cider.

Night hayrides with a bonfire are for groups of 25 or more. Call to ask whether they're running this season.

Orchard recipes

A few family favorites for what you take home from the stand.

Apple butter in the crock pot
  • 8 cups apple pulp
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice

Cook on high for 2 1/2 hours or until right. Stir often.

Sibley Orchards coffee cake
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup nuts
  • 1 tsp. flavoring, to complement the preserves
  • 1 jar Sibley Orchards preserves (best with Amaretto Peach or Amaretto Cherry)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup sour cream

Beat butter until creamy. Add sugar, eggs and flavoring. Combine the dry ingredients and add to the mix alternately with the sour cream. Put half the batter in a greased and floured 10-cup bundt pan, sprinkle with half the nuts and dot with half the preserves. Top with the rest of the batter, nuts and preserves. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool completely.

Blackberry ice cream
  • 2 pints fresh berries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups cream
  • 3 tsp. lemon juice

Put the berries in a saucepan with the sugar over low heat, covered. Raise the heat, mash the berries and simmer uncovered 5 minutes. Cool slightly, then strain through a sieve, pressing out the juice. Stir in the remaining ingredients and freeze.
